SXM PAWS: Take Home a Friend With Paws, One by One We Can Make a Difference.
SXM Paws has been actively helping the animals of St Maarten for many years. We are dedicated to giving these animals a better chance at life by rescuing, spaying/neutering, facilitating foster homes, providing food and medical care, and finally finding them their forever homes. With our current Adoption Center, we are able to make all of this possible and help more of the stray population here on our beautiful island.
At SXM Paws, we foster animals not only to reduce overcrowding in shelters, but to give them a chance to live in a home. By fostering, we learn about the dog or cat’s personality, needs, training level, etc. which allows us to make as accurate a match as possible when it comes time to find a forever family.
Every year 8 to 12 million dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are euthanized because there are simply not enough homes for them. All animals at our shelter are in need of a second chance: lost, given up, or abandoned. By choosing to adopt, you are giving them a new life in a loving home.
Many of the animals that come into our care have suffered unimaginable hardship and mistreatment. Our goal is to educate our community on the proper treatment of animals, including pet travel information.
Our civilian animal rescue operation recovers animals from substandard conditions, and gives the abused, neglected, malnourished, or abandoned animals every effort to give those animals better lives. This involves removal from an unhealthy environment, veteranary care, and integration into a foster home until the pet is ready to find his/her forever home.
By spaying or neutering your pet, not only are you are helping to control the animal overpopulation crisis, which results in millions of healthy dogs and cats being euthanized, but your pet is guaranteed to live living a longer, healthier life as this helps circumvent many heath and behavioral issues.
Community Volunteer Work
Our volunteers are always looking to help in several key areas. This includes walking and socializing dogs at our Adoption Center and helping at our feeding stations, in the areas of Cupecoy, Mullet Bay and Point Pirouette.
